UPDATE 2018: For further clarification, avoiding a certain romantic literary sub-genre out of personal romance reading preferences is very different from holding and practicing prejudices against a group of people simply for their sexual identity. I'm talking romance story preferences here, people.

Old 2011 Description:

"Oh, I see. You're just a stupid homophobe who doesn't know how to accept true love between two males. I feel sorry for you. Grow up, why don't you." - person who will not be named

This is a quote taken off of a conversation I read the other day between two differing opinions on yaoi ((I was not in it, for the record..)). This was after things got heated... and, uh, there was quite a good amount of name-flinging...

I'll admit here and now-- I'm not all that fond of yaoi. I don't hate it-- but I just prefer reading hetero.  Does that really validate somone calling me a HOMOPHOBE? As has happened once before >.>

Homophobe-> a person characterized by homophobia.
Homophobia-> Fear of or contempt for lesbians and gay men.

Did I ever say I feared or hated lesbians and gays? Preferring not to read yaoi is merely a romance reading preference. Nothing more.

I have many friends who are yaoi lovers. In fact, my best friend in real life is a yaoi lover. I'm not bashing on yaoi fangirls, 'kay? I'm just tired of certain ones who can't seem to accept that some people just don't have the same preferences as they do. And I most of all get tired of the ones who try to shove their rabid yaoi lovingness down my throat.

And then, when I kindly and calmly decline, they call me a homophobe.

What?

Reality check dear fangirls :grump:.

Now, on a brighter side-- feel free to love yaoi. But be nice about it? As I said before, I have many wonderful friends who happen to be yaoi lovers. I don't mind joking about yaoi with them or laughing at pairings.

It is possible for yaoi lovers to get along with non-yaoi lover fangirls. And without using the definition of homophobe wrong, lmao.

Yes, yes...I have been trying to say this, there is a difference between yaoi and actual same sex relationships. Same sex relationships used to be considered taboo but are now generally more accepted, and yaoi is just male on male erotica written for women who like that sort of thing. Do I dislike yaoi? Yes, a lot. But I am not homophobic. Saying i'm homophobic just because I dislike yaoi is stupid and makes no sense, it's like if people accused me of being a child hater just because I don't like doing roleplays or stories that focus on children.
